Dr. Patrick DeHeer, DPM - Gastroc Recession for Pediatric Flatfoot Deformity

Check out this new video of a Gastroc Recession for a Pediatric Flatfoot reconstruction. This is a partial lengthening of the achilles tendon. Let me know what you think.

Hey,

Thanks for posting this on the web. I am going to have this procedure done on my right leg in June. I am kind of scared, hoping it will help with the tendinitis and lack of dorsalphextion (sp) due to short Achilles tendons. I have lived with my toe walking and all the aches it causes for 25 years and I am hoping this is a solution since physical therapy and stretch have not worked. Seeing this video made me less scared of the surgery. However, it does not help with the nerves about if this will work or not. There was some debate between doctors on lengthening the Achilles or the Gastroc Recession. After seeing all the fluid build up in my ankle from many sprains the doctor decided to do the Gastroc Recession hoping it would eliminate tension and will keep the Achilles strong so my loose ankle will have less reason to twist. I think the doctor is also going to get some of the fluid out of my ankle while he has me in the operating room.

Other than the surgery I worry about Levanox (sp) injections I have to give myself since I had a blood clot (DVT) earlier this year. Ick!

After that babbling what do you think? Tips, thoughts, encouragement, etc. welcome.
